Novita AI Balance: Check Credits & Set Up Your API Key

Check your Novita AI balance in USD with a dedicated API key. Follow account setup, key expiry, permissions, balance reconciliation, and troubleshooting steps.

Awaiting live-account verification

Guide updated

Implemented against the official balance API; live-account verification is pending. Signed-in key creation, team permissions, and balance reconciliation have not been tested. Automated tests do not count as live verification.

What is monitored
Account available balance
Reads availableBalance for the Novita account behind the key. Every amount is converted exactly from the documented 1/10000 USD unit. Cash, credit allowance, pending charges, and outstanding invoices remain separate; available balance is not recomputed. Shared team funds are not a member, API key, or Quota Monitor project wallet.

How to check your Novita AI balance manually

  1. Sign in to the Novita account that actually pays for your application and confirm the team or personal account.
  2. Open Billing and review USD available balance and top-up funds, keeping credit allowance and outstanding invoices separate.
  3. Top up directly in official Billing if needed. Model/Sandbox promotions, monthly spending, and key budgets are not the same balance.

Connect Novita AI to Quota Monitor

  1. 1. Identify the right account and balance

Sign in to Novita AI and open the Billing link below. If you belong to a team, confirm that the selected team or personal account actually pays for your application. Find the account balance, not model-specific promotions or Sandbox trial credits.

Check: you can identify the target account's USD balance. Monitoring does not require a top-up or upgrading a personal account to a team. Signed-in menus and reconciliation still need live-account verification.

  2. 2. Create a dedicated key in Key Management

In the same account, open Settings → Key Management and select Create API Key. Name it Quota Monitor so you can distinguish it from production keys used by other applications.

Check: you are creating a Novita API key, not copying a model name, Key ID, another provider's key, or a browser session credential.

  3. 3. Choose an expiry and save the full secret

Choose an expiry according to your team's policy: Permanent, 90 days, 30 days, or 24 hours. A short test can use 24 hours; ongoing monitoring needs an appropriate lifetime and a replacement plan. After creation, immediately save the full sk_ secret in a password manager; it is shown only once.

Check: you copied the full secret without a Bearer prefix. Expiry cannot be edited afterward; lost or expired keys require a new key. Never put it in chat, screenshots, or guide feedback.

  4. 4. Review permissions without assuming read-only access

This is an ordinary API key, not a balance-only read token. If restricting models, an already-authorized admin can open Model Access on this dedicated key, choose Selected models only, select allowed models, and save. At least one model is required, and standalone image/video capabilities are outside that restriction; it is not a read-only control.

Check: other applications' keys are unchanged. Novita's team table grants Balance access to Owner, Admin, and Billing, but Billing cannot create model keys. The key's actual billing access needs live testing. For 403, ask an existing admin or Novita to check access; do not elevate roles or disable policies just for monitoring.

  5. 5. Add Novita inside your project

In Quota Monitor, open the target project → add provider connection → add new connection. Select Novita AI (USD), enter a recognizable connection name, paste the complete key into the Novita API Key password field, and save the connection to your project.

Check: only one key is needed; no API URL, team ID, provider project ID, or Key ID. USD is fixed. The key is encrypted and only its last four characters are displayed. For MCP, use the secure entry link rather than sending the key to an agent.

  6. 6. Sync and reconcile with official Billing

Wait for first sync or choose Query latest balance and confirm a new successful query time. Reopen Billing for the same account and compare available balance. Expand the card's amount details to check remaining top-up funds, credit allowance, and outstanding invoices separately.

Check: account, currency, and time match. The API's 10000 units equal $1; conversion is automatic, with no rate to configure. Do not compare raw integers, monthly costs, or a key budget directly. Live reconciliation is pending; report only redacted amounts, times, and error codes if anything differs.

  7. 7. Top up directly on Novita when needed

Choose Open provider on the card, confirm the same account, and use Billing's top-up action. Enter your desired amount, review the provider's current payment terms, and complete payment yourself. Enabling automatic top-up is not required for this integration.

Check: payment has posted before syncing again. Quota Monitor only calls the balance GET; it never tops up or changes payment methods, automatic top-up, or budgets.

  8. 8. Replace or revoke before expiry

Create a new dedicated key, add a replacement connection, and verify sync. Remove all project references to the old connection, delete that unused connection, then delete its dedicated key in Novita Key Management. Plan a replacement window if your plan has no spare connection slot.

Check: you did not delete a production key. Removing a connection from one project does not revoke its Novita key. Delete an unused dedicated key on the provider when you stop monitoring.

What Quota Monitor reads from Novita AI

  • Credit allowance is money you can owe, not prepaid cash. Do not add or subtract the breakdown again, or sum the same account balance across projects.
  • Model- or Sandbox-specific promotions, vouchers, member/key budgets, and subscription quotas are not separately queried or converted into account funds.
  • Novita currently documents pendingCharges as defaulting to 0. This does not prove there is no unsettled usage. The amount is the latest successful query; posting may lag, and failures never become zero or estimates.
  • A positive balance does not guarantee requests will work. Key expiry, team permissions, model access, and separate budgets can still block calls.
  • The dashboard shows the latest successful snapshot. Manual refresh queries the provider again but cannot eliminate upstream billing delays. An old balance is not a new result after a failed query.

Novita AI FAQ and troubleshooting

Why do I get 401 or a credential-format error?
Copy the full sk_ key from the same account, without a Bearer prefix, and check expiry or deletion. Do not paste its masked form, Key ID, or a Cookie. The full value is shown once; create a new dedicated key if it was lost.
Why does balance return 403 when model calls work?
Model access and billing access differ. Ask an existing administrator to check the team and key owner, or contact Novita about balance API permissions. Do not immediately elevate roles, disable restrictions, or use Cookies. If ordinary-key custody is unacceptable, check Billing manually.
Why is it different from top-up funds, or off by 10000×?
The main amount uses official availableBalance. cashBalance is remaining top-up funds, and creditLimit is borrowing allowance. All five API fields use 1/10000 USD and are converted once. Do not add fields, divide again, or compare with a monthly invoice.
Do zero pending charges mean there is no new usage?
No. The official documentation says pendingCharges currently defaults to 0; it is not proof of fully settled real-time usage. Check the same account's billing records and the last successful query time.
What if a top-up is missing, sync fails, or projects show the same amount?
Check the account and payment posting; retry later after 429. A failed refresh retains an older snapshot, not a fresh balance or zero. Multiple keys and projects may share the same account funds; never add those duplicate balances.
